My Little Traveler

Believe it or not, by the age of 7 months this little guy is going to already have 3 stamps in his passport. Yes, he does actually have a passport! He has become quite the little traveler with us. At 5 weeks he was already taking his first car trip to see his Grandma and Grandpa in Detroit, MI and at 7 weeks he was on a plane to Naples, FL. Since then he has had another trip to Florida, Jamaica and many more to Michigan and Indiana to visit family. Today we embark on what is probably the biggest travel undertaking to date. We are taking him on a 8-9 hour plane ride to Europe. We are going to see his Uncle Chad who is studying in Spain. We will travel through Spain and end in Paris for a few days. We are all very excited but I would be lying if I said I wasn't a bit nervous. Not sure which is more nerve-wracking--the plane ride or the 6 hour time change. Yikes. It could be a rough two weeks but we are hoping it all goes well. I'll be sure to have a full report with pictures when we return!

Milestone Moment

This is one of those posts that may be boring to everyone else but in our house....its a huge deal. The week of Gavin's 6 month birthday, he decided he was ready to sit on his own. He rocked it. (Literally....there was lots of rocking.) Even when he tips over, he takes it like a champ. So, we have reached another milestone to make his Mommy and Daddy proud.

Making Mommy Sweat

Yes, the title is correct--the one thing that makes this kid's Mommy sweat more than her workout class is getting this boy's picture taken. I'll be the first to admit that I was way too naive going for Gavin's 6 month/Easter pictures. I mean, my post-colic baby is SO smiley and happy. And the best thing about his smiles is he isn't stingy about them--he'll flash them to anyone. So I thought this would be a piece of cake. However, at the end of a very long photo shoot, I was dripping...yes, literally dripping...as in hair stuck to the face...wet trying to get this child of mine to crack a smile. Everything that is funny at home was no longer funny and trust me, I threw all disclosure to the wind and made a complete fool of myself in public working to get a smile. At the end of the day, we have PLENTY of goofy faces (see pics 1 and 2) and finally when almost all was lost, he gave us the last picture....and that sweet, sweet pic makes it all worth it.

A little bit of history

Gavin Matthew was born on September 13, 2007 just two days after his due date. From first contraction to the last minute of labor was almost exactly 24 long hours. He weighed in at a decent 7 lb 8 1/2 oz and was 20 inches long. He had white blond hair and was very alert from the get go. Little did we know what "being so alert" would lead to. Gavin was a crazy colicky baby--hours of crying and screaming coupled with pacing and bouncing. The first 3-4 months were tough. Now at his 6 month checkup, he weighed in at 17 lb 11 oz and is 27 inches long. He has grown so much! These days he is very quick to smile (which is what most people comment on the most) but can still be a bit temperamental. I can't believe 6 months has gone by already and am amazed at how life has changed. Gavin has made me laugh, smile, cry (um, not necessarily tears of joy)...but most of all he has made me realize how much love I have to give and I wouldn't change his colicky, smiley, drive-me-crazy-stubborn personality for anything. Never has anything in my life made me more proud or humble.

Here we go...

So after making lots of fun of lots of people...I've decided to do this whole blog thing. To be honest, I'm still not sold on it. However, my son is about to turn 6 months old and I have come to the realization that time is just flying by. I have also come to the realization that I am awful at documenting and organizing pictures, events and milestones of his life. My girlfriend who got me going on this told me at the end of a year you can have your blog printed and bound in a book. So, this blog is mainly for my own sake...because I can admit I will never scrapbook. I was born without the skill, creativity and patience it takes to scrapbook. That only leaves me with the guilt of not scrapbooking. So...here comes my shorthanded version of a scrapbook and I am sharing it with whoever is interested.
